I’m in love with Thurley dresses!! Yes, yes this is very in advance (we’re thinking March 2011…) and there is the small matter of giving birth first but I’m starting to get excited as I found and bought my dress at the weekend! Because myself and my fiance will have been together for 11 years by the time the big day rolls around and we will ( long as all goes to plan) have had a child, we are viewing the wedding as more of a celebration than as a traditional do. We want it to have a really laid back, carefree feel, much like the images below:

I found the dress in a vintage shop and it is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for, it has that floaty, relaxed feel to it. I had previously been looking at dresses by Australian company Thurley – gorgeous, but I was having trouble finding stockists over here:

So now I just need to think about accessories and I’ve already spotted this fantastic jewellery by PastelPetals on Etsy which I think is ideal:

One more thing, I recently noticed that my Gemini artwork  got a mention on the lovely blog of Natalie Jost as part of her Friday Favourites. Always nice to get a shout out – thanks Natalie!

It all started after I saw this fabulous shower curtain at Rockett St. George:

Suddenly I noticed all around me, designs using subway maps. Not just London either, New York, Tokyo – and all such great items. I think it works so well because they are so graphic  and instantly recognisable. While looking into it I also came across a fantastic online shop Art Meets Matter, here are some of their London Underground inspired designs (check out the rug!):

Art Meets MatterNow before I show you any more tube inspired loveliness I just want to give a shout out to some more products by Art Meets Matter on the London theme:

Also check out their brilliant vinyl lampshades and mug shot mugs – based on the mug shots of celebrities! Anyway, onto more subway stuff:

Sorry to bombard you with my own artwork recently but like I said, I’ve been very busy this week! Normal, trend based service will be resumed soon I promise! In the meantime please take a look at my (finally!) updated Etsy shop:

trendOk…I have to admit I have no idea if this is a trend or if for some strange reason my life has inexplicably become filled with these lip ticklers (thankfully not my own…) but for the last few months I seem to have been plagued by them. But if it’s not a trend, why not? Look how many cool products there are promoting the good old fashioned ‘tasche! It started with me commenting to friends about how many young guys I had seen on the tube sporting really long, twirly moustaches (strangely I only ever see them on the tube…where do they go??). Then I went on a hen do where the theme was also the hairy beasts, which was hilarious. I highly recommend it should you need a simple party theme…one friend now has the nickname Blakey due to her uncanny resemblence to the character from On the Buses. And then I saw this on Etsy by Suddenly, It’s Real! :

Half Pint Mustache

And now we’re coming to the real reason for this post…I think I just wanted an excuse to mention it. I recently bought one for a friend as a birthday present and I am so jealous. I may have to get myself one, I love them! Then I kept coming across this brilliant bandana on the internet:

So I decided to do a bit of digging and I’m glad I did because look at all of this hairy loveliness:

trendIt was my birthday a while ago and the lovely people at work got me these gorgeous ceramic biscuits by Robert Archard that I’d seen and fallen in love with. Aren’t they fantastic?! They open up into little trinket boxes, I love them and I’m just keeping my eye out for a suitably gorgeous plate for them to perch on!

What with that and a bout of the dreaded swine flu, during which I watched episode after episode of Desperate Housewives (which seems to have become the new Friends on E4…), slowly turning into Bree Van de Kamp (I have been baking cakes ever since…very unlike me). I’m obvously not the only one with sugary cravings, there are loads of great products out there at the moment that satisfy a sweet tooth without the lifetime on the hips. Tea and cake anyone?

updateI know I’ve been very quiet recently – it’s not through laziness I promise, I’ve just been super busy recently. Do not despair though, I have still had my eyes and ears to the ground, seeking out some great products that illustrate brilliantly some of the trends I have mentioned before. I WANT EVERYTHING!!! Enjoy…

Non disposable, disposable stuff…

How great are these??! What a fantastic idea, Jack Bresnahan has designed these great lids that recycle boring old tin cans into various household items. I love them! (via Designvagabond)

I came across these amazing pottery bowls by Maggie Weldon on Etsy last week. By the time I’ve come to write about them now they’ve (unsurprisingly!) all sold out! I’d definitely suggest keeping an eye on the shop, I hope she’s going to add some more stock soon:

I fell in love with the Mid Century Chairs print by London based company Grace & Go some time ago. Having checked back recently I saw the Heavens to Betsy range of homewares and bags. Too slow again the range is now sold out…must be quicker!!

Ok, this is a bit of a loose connection but I was trying to find an excuse to include the great jewellery company Me & Zena. I got the ‘Take Me Down’ necklace last year for my birthday and I just love it. I took a look at their website and they have some really great new necklaces, incuding one in the shape of the British Isles so…ta da! Theres my link…

At last! I have finally joined the wonderful world of Etsy. Having been saying to myself I will do it for longer than I care to remember I now have my own shop. I am still yet to sell anything but it’s not dampening my enthusiasm! Check out the items in my store below:

I have got a couple of prints of of my paintings in there, I hope to add some more soon:

I’ve also done a few original paper cut outs, a couple on the similar pattern theme but also one that features something I overheard somebody say on a train years ago. They were taken aback when they bumped into somebody they knew. The person asked if they had seen them out the other day and he stuttered ‘Maybe…it could have been me. I am one of many few’. It  has stuck with me ever since!

trendI’ve noticed a lot of homewares featuring computer style imagery recently, some of the ideas and designs are great. I really like the Adobe Creative Suite cushions available from SuiteStuff and the computer keys doormats by Pieter Woudt are a work of genius. I love they way he has taken something most of us look at every day in our working lives and completely changed its meaning. Brilliant.

How cool are these cushions?! I was thinking about which trend to add them to; there’s the type slogans, the alphabet lettering, a Union Jack – and then I realised I didn’t need to assign them to a trend as they’re just so damn hot!

You can purchase all of these and more from Etsy. AND as if the cushion weren’t great enough they are also eco friendly. The felt used in her cushions are made from 100% post consumer recycled plastic water bottles. Every pound of felt is equivalent to 10 water bottles that would have otherwise ended up in a landfill. Even more of an excuse to buy one.
