I absolutely love this furniture by Zoe Murphy, particularly the retro pieces that have been restored and printed with drawings from Margate seaside. What a fantastic idea!

Hello, sorry it has been so long since I last posted properly but there have been big changes afoot. I’ve left the bright lights of London and moved back to Essex so I’ve been busy digging out the white stilettos. I’m also now only 3 weeks off my due date (eek…) so on maternity leave and trying to get the new place straight as well as think about the wedding. Phew. I’m back now though, computer set up and raring to go.

Since I posted about Namolio I’ve noticed a bit of a crochet obsession forming. My mum is currently making me the cutest crochet pram blanket and I’ve just come across this amazing bunting by Wood & Wool Stool:

I think something like this would make a fantastic wedding garland..(hint hint mum!). Wood & Wool Stool also have some fabulous other products to satisfy my crochet cravings:

Ok ok, I know I’ve been a bit slack recently, I’ve been obsessing about weddings and I am also (drum roll…) 3 months pregnant!! Which is obviously amazing but my God the tiredness! I’m out of the first trimester now so (allegedly…) this should start to subside so you can expect a lot more posts and trend spotting from now on – starting with the body, which follows on quite nicely from my obsession with moustaches!

trendAfter posting about Reiko Kaneko’s fabulous cups and mugs I remembered that I saw a candlestick and coat hooks designed to look like drips whilst at Maison et Objet. Having tracked them down it turns out that the candlestick is also by Reiko! Made entirely from English fine bone china and inspired by bottles holding candles often found in restaurants overflowing with wax – she is one clever lady! I’m going to be keeping an eye out for further designs as I think this is a trend in the making!

It all started after I saw this fabulous shower curtain at Rockett St. George:

Suddenly I noticed all around me, designs using subway maps. Not just London either, New York, Tokyo – and all such great items. I think it works so well because they are so graphic  and instantly recognisable. While looking into it I also came across a fantastic online shop Art Meets Matter, here are some of their London Underground inspired designs (check out the rug!):

Art Meets MatterNow before I show you any more tube inspired loveliness I just want to give a shout out to some more products by Art Meets Matter on the London theme:

Also check out their brilliant vinyl lampshades and mug shot mugs – based on the mug shots of celebrities! Anyway, onto more subway stuff:

How fantastic are these??!

Moustache Mugs

I was lucky enough to go to the Maison & Objet show in Paris just after I blogged about the ongoing trend for moustache imagery. I think I actually squealed when I saw these mugs by Peter Ibruegger!

And while we're on the subject of cool mugs I wanted to show you these fantastic
ones by Reiko Kaneko:

Lip & Drip Teacups

Apart from her fantastic, humorous products, the great thing about Reiko is that she firmly believes in using UK manufacturers meaning most of her products are made in England. She works closely with British companies, in particular the ceramic industry in Stoke on Trent.

And then sticking with the trompe l’oeil mug theme, I also saw these ones at La Corbeille:

I’ve been a busy bee this week. I’ve done these two new abstracts, I am trying to develop 6 square artworks for a card range, to be published by The Art Group, that work together but have different enough compositions. My favourite way to work is with the portrait orientation so I’ve enjoyed the challenge:

Blue Abstract Green Abstract

Card Set

I’ve been experimenting with some Xmas imagery for potential cards. This is what I’ve done so far but I’m  not sure if its ‘Christmassy’ enough, it’s been suggested I should change the background colour which I think will really help. I love the colours against the blue but it isn’t the most obvious colour for Xmas, I think I was aiming for it look like snowflakes falling from the sky. I think with a different background colour and some of the blue used as accents within the snowflakes it could be more successful. Watch this space…

trendOk…I have to admit I have no idea if this is a trend or if for some strange reason my life has inexplicably become filled with these lip ticklers (thankfully not my own…) but for the last few months I seem to have been plagued by them. But if it’s not a trend, why not? Look how many cool products there are promoting the good old fashioned ‘tasche! It started with me commenting to friends about how many young guys I had seen on the tube sporting really long, twirly moustaches (strangely I only ever see them on the tube…where do they go??). Then I went on a hen do where the theme was also the hairy beasts, which was hilarious. I highly recommend it should you need a simple party theme…one friend now has the nickname Blakey due to her uncanny resemblence to the character from On the Buses. And then I saw this on Etsy by Suddenly, It’s Real! :

Half Pint Mustache

And now we’re coming to the real reason for this post…I think I just wanted an excuse to mention it. I recently bought one for a friend as a birthday present and I am so jealous. I may have to get myself one, I love them! Then I kept coming across this brilliant bandana on the internet:

So I decided to do a bit of digging and I’m glad I did because look at all of this hairy loveliness:
